I will not copy what other churches are doing for Easter.

I will not be jealous.

I will not envy their bigger light board, moving lights, equipment, or staging.

I will resist.

I will listen to the Spirit and lead how He has planned specifically for our church.

I will have His will be done.

I will listen.

I will obey.

I will find satisfaction and security in Him, not in plans.

Today was the final day for our Grow Series. This coming weekend we’re having a Good Friday service, an Easter Egg Hunt for the community (over 7,000 eggs!) and two big services on Sunday.

Our set list today was:

Trading My Sorrows (needed an old familar one to wake everyone up)

Praise Adonai (2nd week in a row for this new one)

Ever wonder what this worship minister does on a Monday? Here is today’s task list..pretty typical actually.

My Moleskine Journal entries today were:

study/pray

work on the set list for practice/coming Sunday

email set list reminders and charts to team members

create new Mother’s Day welcome slide

finish the Good Friday service order; confirm sound/video/light techs

finalize Good Friday graphics

edit the soloist schedules

edit the new member packet we are producing

send youth band emails/communicate future plans

dream of new worship order formats

upload/edit all Good Friday videos

call our new youth minister to catch up on life

read my leadership book (Linchpin by Seth Godin)

call a prospective tech team member (one per day)

finalize Kentucky Christian College concert choir details for Apr. 23 show

cancel a worship team party that was previously scheduled

follow up on all emails/send responses/return phone calls

check stage/rehearsal room; clean up from yesterday’s activities

turn in reciepts to our office manager

As you can see from the pic, some of these aren’t done yet, but there’s still time left today….

Sunday Setlist for March 14, 2010

Today was a great day at North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville. The choir joined our worship team and played the role of the worship leading choir for the entire set. My son had his first ever solo during one song, and my wife sang the duet part with him on the same song… Help is On the Way.

The set list was:

Awesome is the Lord Most High, Worthy of My Praise, Nothing But the Blood, Wonderful Cross, Help is on the Way, and our decision song was Only Trust Him (hymn).

What Worship Team Members Want to Say to Sound Techs

Since I posted last week about what our sound techs would say to people on the stage, I’m giving equal time to our vocalists and band members today.

They would tell the tech team:

a. please be patient with me. I am human, just like you. I make mistakes.

b. When you ask me for an adjustment in volume, please let me know why. That may have an affect on the way I’m playing or an effect I’m using for my instrument. If I’m a vocalist, explain why what I am currently doing is not working the best.

c. I know you have lots of tech buddies who want to visit with you. Please give the whole set and service your fullest attention and wait until after things are over to begin your hanging out time. If you are distracted, you may miss something I need from you.

d. Please speak to us with courtesy and love. We may not understand all of the technical terminology until you explain it to us.

e. Please be on time for sound checks. I am.

f. You are part of the Worship Team. We are not enemies. We are on the same team.

g. Thanks for all you do to make worship excellent week in and week out. We love you.

This morning we started our new series called Grow, which is one of our five core values.

I kept the green lighting scheme for the third week in a row. I am going to change it next week.

Our set today was:

We tagged Holy God with the bridge of How Great Is Our God and went back to the chorus of Holy God.

It was a great day!

What Tech Teams Want to Say to Worship Teams

Words of advice from your sound operator to everyone on the stage: (spoken in Christian love, of course)

1. Please be patient with me.

2. If you ask me for an adjustment on the board, please wait more than three seconds before saying “nothings happening yet”.

3. When you are asked to sing into your mic for a check, please sing at the fullest volume you will use that morning. This gives me a peak level. If you simply say “hello” and stop speaking, that is not even close to enough. I need at least thirty seconds of singing to adjust your levels.

4. Hey band members: I know you’re artsy and all and full of musician angst that MUST get out, but please stop playing, fiddling, or tuning when checking the vocal mics. And when we’re checking your band mates.

5. Hey vocalists: I know your inner artist is dying to get out and all, but please stop talking on stage, especially near your mic, when we are checking the instruments.

6. Please be on time for sound checks. I am.

7. Sound checks are not wasted time. The checking of each level of instrument or mic may take a good twenty minutes to half hour, depending on if the board and equipment were used since we last had rehearsal. Standing around waiting for someone else to check once you are done is not useless. You may be asked to sing or play again to recheck levels before the whole team gets going as a group.

8. I will make mistakes. I am human. I am doing my best, really. God is using me just like he’s using you. We are a team.
